Recently I have upgraded my Laptop hard drive from 40GB to 100GB. Installed the new disk and everything works great. Now I put the old disk on an external case and try to use it. But none of my systems recognize the drive. Only my HP laptop finds it. Other systems( Dell latitude, Desktops) don't. I tried the jumpers to be at cable select. Slave etc. Nothing works. I hear clicking noises and the LED turns red and green alternatively.

I know the disk is good. When I hook it upto HP laptop light stays green and I can see the contents of it. It is a seagate mementus disk from my HP laptop. Am I missing something here? Do I need to buy a new case and try it? Please help.

Thanks.

Stupid question, but do the 'other' systems run USB 2.0? If you are running USB 1.1 on the other systems then you won't have enough juice to power the drive. If you have USB 1.1 on the other systems you can always use the power cable which SHOULD have come with the external case.

Not meaning to insult you, but just wanted to check.

All the systems are relatively new and all have USB2.0. All are running windows XP SP2 as well. I am plugging it directly into the USB ports on the mobo not using any USB hub. Also there is no power feed for the external case. SUpposedly powerup using USB.
