Help with error during startup...

I was installing the motherboard drivers on my new build (in sig) and I got the following error after restarting from installing the nvidia drivers (I installed them all except for the IDE drivers isnce I heard they weren't that great):

Windows coudl not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
system32\DRIVERS\pci.sys

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair

I put my windows CD back in and pressed "r" at every screen but I still end up back at the error above - how exactly do I start the Windows Setup CD since pressing "r" doesn't appear to work?

let it start to laod files and then when it comes up to install windows then hit the leter to repair it then it will continue like regual insttalation and then it will finish it shuld be fixed

It never gets far enough to start loading windows files though. When I start the computer it goes:
1. image of the EPoX logo
2. 1st bios screen (says hit F1 to continue, Del top enter setup)
3. 2nd bios screen (Verifying DMI Pool Data)
4. Repeats 1, 2 & 3
5. Then the error screen pops up

I've tried hitting "r" the entire time but nothing happens.

I forgot to add above that I had already finished the initial intsall of Windows XP with SP2 prior to loading the nvidia drivers

Would it be easier for me to just reload windows rather than track down this error? If so, how exactly do I initiate the windows reload? I've rebooted the computer with the Windows disc on the CD-ROM drive, but I can't figure out how to get it to run since windows won't load...

Do you have the CD-rom as the first boot device?

lol, no - so I just set it as first boot device and was able to load windows set up - thanks for the help 🙂

I'm going to just reinstall windows and take it from there.

Maybe try the repair utility first?

I went ahead & did a fresh install since I wasn't in any rush - turned out great and have alreday logged an hour playing World of Warcraft on my new system 🙂
