Equipment-

8rda+ MB
AMD 2100+
SLK-800 heatsink
Geforce 4 4400ti
WD 120GB
LiteOn 24x burner
WinXP pro

Geforce4, WD 120GB, and LiteOn all worked on p4 system no problem.

I do a fresh install of XP. Install SP1. Everything works great.

Install Nforce2 drivers and reboot...... I get to the WindowsXP screen, scrolling blue bar goes by a few times and locks up.

I've tried every nforce2 driver out there. Updated the bios. Nothing seems to work. I did finally get into the desktop once, but everything was extremely slow, like it took a minute just to open up My Computer.

Checked temperatures and voltages- all ok.
Tried clearing cmos, going back to old bios, etc.

PS should be no problem as it has my P4 up to 3.26Ghz.

Can you get into Safe Mode? If you can, then it's likely not a hardware problem, but the drivers or something software-related. Narrowing it down will let you know what to try next to track down a culprit.

I would modify the order of the install to XP OS, then nForce2 driver set and last SP1 to see if this made a difference.
Obviously, if it does, you should report it here.:)

I'll try that, but it specifically says to install SP1 first.

Can't install the USB 2.0 drivers w/out SP1 unfortunately. Its recommended in the install readme to install SP1 first, but it might be worth a shot though. Also check your BIOS settings to make sure everything looks nominal.

That was it. XP, Nforce2 drivers, SP1. Workin like a champ now.

Had me sweatin all day thinking it was my memory or my hd getting corrupt, or maybe my usb mouse or keyboard.

I don't have any usb2.0 devices so I can't comment on if that works or not, but I don't have anything in my device manager showing any problems.

Now its time to o/c :)

Glad it worked...I have tested the USB2 and can assure you that if it is listed in the hardware tab...it works. (Obviously, without those pesky !s & other bad things.)

Dug,
You should be in a position to give us some straight comments on the merits of the P4 vs. XP+:D:D:Dright?

I'll tell ya what...

I can't notice a difference at all between Intel and AMD. The only reason I was running a P4 setup in the first place was because there wasn't a motherboard for AMD that I liked until now.

The two big pluses for the AMD system-

I really like the sound coming out of the nforce2 mb.
I like the one click driver install for everything.

Dug (ETAL),
AFIK, the AMD - nForce2 - ATI 9700 PRO system beats anything in the Intel arsenal, both Stock & O/C'd
(for about $.60 on the dollar). (Well, maybe a little strong, maybe $.90 on the dollar.)
