Help with email on "domain forwarded" website

A non-profit group I work with is redesigning their site. Temporarily, it is being redirected to another site using "domain forwarding with masking".

Now they want to know if there is a way to keep the email addresses working while the domain forwarding is in effect. The place where the domain is forwarded to can't do email because it's some hosted Mac thing. So they have the web pages working, but no email.

Anyone know if this can be done? Thanks in advance.

i'm pretty sure it can. i had a similar problem recently with a design portfolio website that was being forwarded to a phpBB forum & index (home index.html) file. the tweak that fixed it was to fix the name-server configuration.

Thanks - now all I have to do is figure out how to figure out what the prior DNS records said. 😱

If you're using a normal hosting service, they should have a button that will reset it to the defaults. Then just redo your web forwarding and leave the MX alone.

Contacted tech support where our site is hosted asking for what the DNS entries are supposed to be and they gave me the information for the nameservers. Somehow I don't think that's the information I need.

I can see where and how to modify the MX records at our registrar, but I don't know what info to put in there. If I put in the domain name of our site, that will just redirect to the place it's being forwarded to, I think.

Do you mind telling me the registrar and where you are hosting the site? Also, is the email hosted on the same server as the website, or somewhere else?

There are several ways to do what you want, but I need to know how things are setup currently.

You can PM me if you'd rather do that.
