Help With DVD-RW Drive

Well, today I tired to install my new dvd burner. Its an NEC DVD-RW drive that supports all formats of dvds and cds. So this is how I installed it incase I made an error during installation:

1) I removed my old CD-RW/DVD-rom drive.

2) Placed my new DVD-RW drive in the bay

3) Placed my old CD-RW/DVD-rom drive in a slot below my new one.

4) Connected the IDE cable (The master plug) into my new drive

5) Checked if the jumper was set to master.

6) PLugged in the power cord and digital audio plug into my soundcard (Creative Soublaster Audigy 2ZS)

7) Set jumper of old drive to slave

8) PLugged in the IDE cable (slave plug) into my old drive.

9) Plugged in power and digital audio for the old drive

10) Went into to BIOS to check if everything was set properly and it was.

So installation went pretty smoothly. Here's the problem. Whenever i put blank media in my new drive and try to open it through my computer, it says the drive (D:/) is not accessible and that i have an "incorrect function" So i have no idea what the hell this means and i really need help. My old drive is working perefectly fine just the way it did for one year now. Oh and another thing, the new drive can read cds and dvds fine but i just can't open up blank media. Please help, im sure its just a simple stupid mistake on my part but I just don't know what it is.

Problem Number 2

I also tried to install this internal flash card reader made by Linksys. Its an internal 9 in 1 card reader that support MS, Ms duo, MS Pro, CF, SM, SD, MD, and such. Well it only had one plug for it which was a USB plug. Not the kind for mice and keyborads and the like, but the one that connects directly to the mobo. Well i conect it to the USB pin on my mobo and nothing happened. I tried installing the drivers that came with it but that didnt help. Its not even recognized on my hardware list. So whats wrong?

Thanks in inadvcance for the help guys.

Problem 1: Try setting the jumpers on both devices to CSEL (Cable Select), and use a current ATA 100 cable - 80 wires with Blue, Black and Gray connectors. Blue goes to Mobo, Black is Master and Gray is slave.

Problem 2: Make sure that USB header on your mobo is enabled in BIOS.

Anyway - it's a bump! 🙂

thank you corkyo for the advice. Ill try the new jumper settings right now. I just checked my BIOS menus and nothing says anything about enabling my mobo's usb header. Could I have plugged it in incorrectly? Ill check my mobo's manual also.

*UPDATE*

Ok so i tried to burn a cd with my new non functioning drive and it worked! So thats kinda good right? It seems like the only thing I cant do is open blank media through explorer. Going to start > My computer > Drive D: > and then the error " Drive D:/ is not accessible Incorrent Function". Next im gonna try burning a DVD with Roxio. Maybe that will work...
