Help with DVD drivers!

Hi, ive just joined and am hoping that the forum will live up to its name 😀

Whenever i try and play a DVD using the ATi player, everything seems fine for the first few seconds. the DVD spins. However after a couple of seconds the DVD spins down and the ATi player crashes.

My system:

Athlon 950 Tbird
256 megs
ATi Radeon 64mb DDR (with ATi DVD player)
Win 98

Would the problem be caused by the fact that i am using MS drivers for this device?. In the Device Manager the said peice of kit appears as 'MATSHITA DVD-ROM SR-8584A'. Everything works properly on the stock MS driver thats bundles with Win 98, except DVD movie playback.

Help! and thanks 😉

ATI player crashes for me too... mine doesn't even play the movie right; skips. Get PowerDVD or WinDVD 2000 players. Also, if you have Directx 8.0a, go onto the DirectX website there is another file that fixes playback problems. I think the file name is called DX80bda.exe and it's 1.6mb. Hope that helps.

I had the same problem with a new DVD drive using the Ati drivers that came with my Radeon . . . and DX 8.0a was installed. It would start and then lock up.

I downloaded and installed WinDVD 3.0 . . . end of problem . . . perfect performance.

I registered and bought WinDVD 3.0. 🙂
