Help with dualdisc reading problem

I have a cd (Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution). It is a dual disc, dvd on one side, cd on the other. For some reason the DVD can be read, but the cd can not. I am not sure why, and its a problem because I have no other cd player with me. Anyone ever hear about something like this, or know any fixes

ok ive read a couple places that some drives have trouble playing the CD side.
also, some standalone players have problems with the discs in general because they are thicker than normal.

anyone know of any fixes for the first problem?

The dvd side works, and it have the album, but in VOB files. anyway I can extract just the audio, and eventually cconvert to MP3?
