Help with DS3/6400

First time trying to OC an Intel.
I have tried setting the FSB to 333 & 400 several times, but every time I reboot the PC, the FSB goes back to 266. Don't know what to do??? Tried changing it both through the Bios and EasyTune.

Also, temps at 55C (even when everything is stock). Will replace HSF soon.

Gigabyte DS3 (F4 Bios)
Intel E6400
2GB OCZ Plat DDR2-6400 (5-4-4-10 per CPUZ)

That means your chip is not able to handle the overclock.
 
How is this surprising?

Do you really expect to be able to make huge jumps OCing?

Slowly increase your FSB.

As in 266 to 270 to 274, etc.

You may need to up vcore, chipset voltage, etc along the way too.
 
Thanks for all the suggestions.

FSB changes are now staying put after some tweaking:

- Reset CMOS
- disabled majority of stuff in the bios (EIST, C1E, TM2, Legacy USB, Fan Control ...)
- changed Vcore to 1.4
- changed Vdimm to 2.0
- Changed RAM timing to 5-5-5-15
- set PCIe to 100
- Gradually upped FSB (upto 333 mhx now)
- set RAM multipier to 2

Temp1/Temp2 on speedFan read 45/55 but should get better after I change the HSF.

What HSF would you suggest? I have a Coolermaster Mystique case.
 
your ram timings seem to low to me, I have the same ram and I think it's only rated for 4 4 4 15 (I could be mistaken?) and 55 seems really hot, even with my stock hsf OC'ed to 3.4 I was at the low 50's.

just noticed your most recent post. I'd keep the eist on tho, saves alot on the power bill imo.


but yeah I'm OC'ed at 3.2 dual primed over night once, and dual 32m super pi'd once.. so I'm stable i have my vdimm +.2'ed. my mch +.1 and pci at 100, I run at 32-35 system and 36-40 cpu idle. 37-39 system load 43-45 cpu load.

are my temps good I'm not really sure anyone have any insigt into that?
 
oh yeah with my old PSU my OC's would always read as 267 for what ever reason, they wouldnt stay. got a new psu fixed it right up.
 
Yes, your temps are good, sanity. To the OP, the Scythe Infinity, the Tuniq Tower 120,the Scythe Ninja, and the Zalman 9500, and the Thermaltake Big Typhoon are the best heatsinks on the market, in that order.
