Help with Drivers

I have a geforce 6200 and everything was working fine until I uninstalled my old drivers and installed new drivers (from the NVIDIA website). Apparently I did something wrong because after I restarted I got something that could only be described as purple static. I quickly booted into safe mode and reinstalled the old drivers. Windows booted fine now, but no Source engine games are working. After asking elsewhere, I realize that I did not use something called a Driver Cleaner. Does anyone have any detailed information/instructions for me on how to use this to get my source games working again?

"1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect"

This just means to disconnect from the internet right?

Also, is there any chance I can damage my software/hardware by doing this? I'm a little paranoid after the purple static incident.
