Help with DRAM Frequency and BIOS settings

Hi
Just setup a new Desktop from components
Intel 4790K CPU
Gigabyte Z97 D3H Motherboard (BIOS ver F7)
2x8 GB DIMMS G.skill Ripjaws 1600 MHz F3-1600C9D-16GXM

2 issues are bugging me :'🙂

1. DRAM is working at 1333 MHz not 1600 (all monitoring software show same value including CPU-Z, and BIOS)
XMP is currently disabled in BIOS (default setting)
Do I need XMP to get it to 1600 M ?
2. Although BIOS detects correct CPU (K version) most of the clock tuning menus (including CPU clock ratio, system memory multiplier etc) are not active. all are set to AUTO and can't seem to change that.
loading default BIOS values does not change situation)

Appreciate your help,
Shalom

You don't need to use XMP to run at DDR3 1600, you can always manually specify the values. However, using XMP is the best/easiest way to get to DDR3 1600.

As for options being disabled, many times there are options which are dependent on other options. So you may need to change a top level setting to Manual before the other options are unlocked.

Thanks.
I figured out the problem:
I was the problem...
I was hitting enter on each variable to get a menu and that didn't happen
Need to type in the value.
Who is supposed to teach this ??? :awe:
