i am using a dlink 604, and i have two comps hooked up to it. the first one works fine and is connected directly with a patch cable. the second one is in a different room and i cant seem to get it connected. i thought at first it might be the keystone jacks but i replaced both of them and checked the order. i tested both of the patch cables im using with it and the ends match. when i run ipconfig it says media state: media disconnected. what do u guys suggest?

Did you make the cables?

What is the length?

Is the cable flat and straight or did you make a rats nest out of it?

How did you punch the jacks down, did you use a punch down tool?

the comp is using the intel pro 100 nic which i dont think has activity lights. the cables i made and are all under 3 feet, and there is about 50' in the wall. "Is the cable flat and straight or did you make a rats nest out of it?"
im not quite sure what you mean by the rats nest. the jacks im using came with caps but i might have to buy a punchdown. im also goina get some premade patch cables and see if thats the problem.

well today i changed out the patch cables for commercial ones, and i checked the jacks with a punchdown. with the integrated nic it would connect then disconect every few seconds, when i tried using a netgear router it would say it was connected and gave me an ip but i still couldnt get anywhere (for example aim said cant find server). i also put the nic from my other comp into it and had the same problems so it has to be the wall jacks or the cable between them. could it be i have a short in the cable or bad jacks?
