Help with Dlink 704, Efficient Networks DSL Modem, Win XP

Need some help...

Scenerio - I would like to network two system together (both using XP)through the .DLink DI-704 cable/DSL router, connecting my router to my Efficient Networks 5260 DSL Modem.

I have two problems.

1) When both systems are plugged into this dsl router, I'm able to ping each other, but I can't see shared drives of one computer on another computer. I have the same workgroup set on both computers. I think I'm missing something basic here, but I can't find it.

2) Basically I'm unable to connect to my DSL through my DLink router. My connection from each of my systems to my router works (all the Link/Act and 10/100 lights are on with each port I've connected to, and I've been able to ping each system). My connection from my Modem to my system works (due to the receive Ethernet light on my modem, and typing this), but I am unable to get a Ethernet Light lit on my DSL Modem when I connect to my DLink Router. I am also unable to http into my router. I used this router before, but I don't remember any of the settings that I had before on it... 🙁 I may need an idea on how to reset the router.

Also, I'm running Zone Alarm on both, but disabling them while messing around still doesn't seem to make a difference.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

First of all try running the network wizard in XP to resolve your networking issues, believe it or not it actually works quite well. Then if your cable modem is bound to the NIC in your main machine you might need to spoof that IP address to the router so the modem thinks it is hooked to that machine. Use the web browser setup for the D-Link to spoof the IP address and check the configuration.

My first priority I guess would be to connect my first system through my router to my DSL Modem. I am unable to use the web browser setup because it keeps trying to 'connect' to the Internet, when my connection is not running through my router yet. I select 'work offline', and my IE/Netscape still won't connect to the DLink router internal setup. Is there an external way to default the router settings? I may have messed around the internal dlink settings a while ago, but I can't remeber what exactly I changed. Either way, I knew I could log into it using Win98 with ease. Am I missing something else here?
