Help with Divinity II

hi all

Hope some of you can give me some suggestions about this game, especially with locating quests and navigating the map.
I bought the game on steam and cannot seem to find a place to download a manual either, so I am also sort of lost regarding crafting and making potions.
Anyway, my question I guess is if there is a way to set a sidequest or even the main quest as your active quest and have the location show up on the map?? I guess I mean sort of like Dragon Age, where you can set a quest as the active quest and the location will show up on the map. So far I like the game, but am spending way too much time wandering aimlessly trying to locate the quests, especially side quests. I am also getting tired of being beat on by goblins and also thier ranged attacks are annoying when they have you heavily outnumbered. Hopefully this will improve as I level up (I am lvl 8 now).
Anyway, any suggestions about navigation, crafting, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

QUICK SAVE OFTEN! The game autosaves very rarely. You will get pissed many times after you forget to save for a while and get 3 shotted by an enemy.

Archers? Roll, roll and roll again. Also play with LOS to make them close the distance (trees work fine for this).

Kill every bunny you meet, seriously! 😀

You have only the main quest visible on the map, it's not possible to change that to side quests.

I completely ignored alchemy. Was using a melee character with a 2h. Rush = win. The highest crit I have done was 29k 😛

Read every book you find. Some side quests and hidden items only show up or progress if you read a book associated with it. It will still be in the consumables category.

Don't worry to spend your minerals on enchants. They are very easy to obtain, especially in the second half of the game. Also, removing an enchant from an item automatically adds the recipe to your list - so if you find a sucky item with a nice enchant, buy it and remove the enchant at the workshop - you can then add those enchants to any items that allow it.

Skills: 1 point in Healing is VERY useful. 1 point in Mana Leech is VERY useful (melee only). Wisdom, Mindread - useless for base game. You will be able to respec later on. However every single respec doubles in gold cost (I paid like 80k for my last one). Also, your skills can't go over the max allowed value, even if you get the extra points from items. So having Whirlwind 4/5 and finding an amulet that gives 2 to Whirlwind will still up it to 5/5. You will be able to increase the max skill value for most skills later in the game (usually to 13 or 15).

MAX LOCKPICKING ASAP 😛 Base game is 5/5, FoV is 7/7.

Malachite gems are VERY rare and used in the most powerful enchants. Don't sell them! Or use on some weak enchant types.

Mindreading is useful in the game. Some characters will give you a skill point. Others a stat point. Some others will reveal information for quests or add new dialogue options. But don't Mindread everyone - you will waste too much XP.

EDIT: Don't worry about missing side quests - the game will be very blunt about informing you that you're at a point of no return and should finish any side quests you're still doing. The first PONR is encountered around the middle of the game (you are told to finish up on stuff you still have open before going forward).

Vitality and Spirit are useless. I didn't spend a single point in them - everything went into Strength, Intelligence and later in Dexterity. Still had like 1k HP in the end and enough mana to never run out of it (thanks to Mana Leech).

One of the quests will allow you to have a pet - it's kinda weak but it pulls aggro very good. Excellent way to distract your enemies, especially in the early game when you're not so strong. Later on you'll be a walking god, ripping enemies to shred, so the pet will be kinda useless.

Loved this game. Hugely underrated. (well, the Dragon Knight Saga version...which is the remastered version)

Spirit is indeed useless. Vit is also pretty useless although i did put some points in. Especially with stuff like life leech and healing rate skills it renders base hit points not that important. I was healing so fast at the end game that it was ridiculous. What this game does well is the progression from feeble weakling to a demi-god badass. Enemies don't level so you truly feel godlike by the end game.

Just finished this game recently. I also agree that it was highly under-rated and preferred it over DA:O. The humor and innudendo in this game is great. Some actual lol moments. Loved it.

OP. You will bumble around for a while wondering wtf is going on and get humbled by goblins at first. That's OK. I did the same thing. Save early, save often. Talk to all of the NPCs (you'll get plenty of quests in the process) and try to clear every enemy from Broken Valley. Once you get through Sentinel Island and @ level 17 things will get a bit easier and will start to make sense.

Also, don't forget to assign your skill points and stat points whenever you level up.

Yeah, great humor. The Terminator spoof at the start of the expansion was a big LOL for me.

I enjoyed the game immensely. I played the demo earlier (on my Xbox) and found it really bad. I bought the game on Steam because it was on a big sale and the screenshots looked a lot better. Turns out it was a good decision! Steam says 63 hours spent and I enjoyed every minute of it! The progression from a weakling to walking death felt very rewarding! Plus there were a lot of jokes in the game, a lot of funny comments and dialogues.

All in all very much worth it, especially if you can get it on a sale.

just put everything into magic missile and spam your way to victory. its the only spell i've used the entire game. i also invested in dual wielding axes but almost never actually hit with them. Magic Missile is way overpowered.

I played the demo to see if I shoudl jump on the steam sale a month ago--but found myself thoroughly confused as to what to do and how I should expect the game to play out.

of course, I felt the same with the Armored princess demo (Very similar games), but I actually bought all of those and am currently digging Legends...so maybe I'll give Divinity a shot when it returns to $7 or less...

Maybe you mean Disciples 2? Divinity II is a 3rd person RPG. Armored Princess (and Legend) is a game from the King's Bounty series and is a strategy game (like Heroes of Might and Magic).

Well I've been playing this all weekend and just took back the tower. So far, this is a surprisingly great game. Much easier to get into and play than the newest Gothic (which I sunk about 2 hours into before completely forgetting that I was playing that game and haven't gone back since).

This is one of those surprising games because it's fun and I had no idea what the game was like when I started. At first I was a dragon slayer. All right cool I thought, lets slay some dragons. Then before I know it I actually become a dragon and fly around? WTF AWESOME. I didn't expect that.

To me, this game joins the ranks of games like The Witcher, where upon first glance appears to suck total donkey balls. The graphics seem weird and buggy. Control appears really terrible and you think this game is going to really blow. Then after putting in a couple hours and giving the game a chance all those initial issues resolve themselves and you find yourself having played for 12 hours straight and feel like you've barely even scratched the surface.

My defining moment when I realized this game wasn't going to suck was after I met the dragon knight girl and had my dragon vision. I randomly jumped backwards and instead of a little clumpy backwards stumble like before, I did a bigass backflip and jumped back like 20 yards. I still don't understand how jumping works in this game though. The only time I can really jump and control that is when I have my bow armed. If I have any other weapons drawn or holstered he'll do that jump attack move or something stupid. Am I totally retarded or is the only way you can jump is by having a bow equipped?

I am really enjoying the game. I am worried that my character who is primarily a ranger is going to become increasingly worthless, however.

😀

Thanks for all the comments. Here are my latest impressions of the game. I am close to finishing it if I can get past another part where I have to play as a dragon.

I still am positive in general about the game, but have found it increasingly frustrating after getting the battle tower.
The two things I am most frustrated with are the navigation/questing and playing as the dragon. It seems the game has degenerated into trying to turn off shields, find a place to land, find a teleporter that is active, and dodge ballistas. One can spend hours trying to find the location of a teleporter or other quest item, and then once you get there, have to do another quest before you can enter or progress to the next step (and spend hours trying to find where to do that quest)and then go back again. I know they dont want the game to seem "dumbed down" but would it be too much to ask for to be able to assign a quest as your active one and have a marker on the map??
And I absolutely HATE having to play as a the dragon. Flying is clumsy, you dont regenerate health, and can not use most of the powers that you have developed. What should be the most awesome part of the game is acutally the most difficult and frustrating.
So basically, I still would recommend the game, but with reservations that some of the questing can be frustrating and seem to be designed to intentionally trick or confuse the player. Overall, it is a fun game, although as I said, personally I enjoyed the earlier part of the game more than the later parts.

You did invest into Dragon Spirit, right? First thing I maxed... The only times I died as a dragon was when I forgot about a shield and was insta-killed when flying into one. In other times I was using Dragon Spirit or dashing away to safety with a summon grabbing the enemy's attention. Polymorph is also great for the healing wyvern commanders. And balistas? Seriously? Those things are so slow... Just strafe and go for the wizard/lightning towers first 🙂

But I have to agree, somewhat. The final part wasn't as exciting as the first 2/3rds. Mostly because it was a tedious clear of the flying fortresses... Still, the game was a lot of fun and well worth the price 🙂

Make sure you assign your dragon skills. There is a heal spell the dragon can cast that heals himself. Sure it uses mana, but his mana regenerates in about 10 seconds so it translates to infinite health as long as you remember to cast it. The cooldown time isn't terrible either.

Just finished the game. I wont give any details, but: The.Worst.Ending.EVER.
Basically just a ploy to force you to buy the expansion or live with "The.Worst.Ending.EVER".

Fortunately, I got the original game and the exapansion for 30.00 from steam. If I had paid 50.00 for just the original game I would have been infuriated at the ending, especially since there is no way to change your choices in the game to change the outcome. How cheap!!! I cant believe there is no outcry on these forums about this.
