I bought the DFI nF4 mother board, hooked it all up(AMD 3000+ 1.8Ghz 64bit processor, two 512 MB 400Mhz DDR Apacer memories, ATI Radeon X600 XT PciE)
And when i powered the mainboard on through the onboard power switch, it didnt turn on, the coolers of the mainboard also didnt turn on, neither did the power supply cooler.
Only the standby LED of the mainboard turned on.
Im using a 400W power supply with a 20pin atx power connector.
What might be the problem, can it be cause of the 20pin ATX power connector?

First thing I would check - look for a bios reset jumper and make sure it's not in the "reset" mode. Often times that will prevent mobos from actually powering up. Be sure that your PSU is powered off when you switch it back otherwise you can get a spark and fry your mobo.

YES. It's because of the 20-pin ATX connector. DFI requires that your PSU have a 24-pin connector. And they strongly recommend against 20-pin to 24-pin convertors, and will not cover it under warranty if your motherboard is damaged.

See if you can return the PSU and exchange it for one with a native 24-pin connector.

that is probaly the cause, but check if there might be anything else. some people have got it to work with 20 pin

thats what it sounds like to me us3r. i tmay be the 20 pin but most people can still start the computer with a 20 pin.

double check the front panel connectors. even try just shorting the atx swith pins to see if it fires.

and of course make sure you have all 4 power plugs in, expecially with the under powered 20 pin psu.

No I'm pretty sure i got the front panel power switch connected right, and even if that was the case the onboard power switch should still power-on the mainboard. And i also cleared the CMOS with the power-cord un-plugged, it's not like the first computer i have assembled :). Somehow i still think it might be the lack of a 24-pin ATX connector or they sold me a broken mainboard at the computer shop.

Looks that the problem isn't only in the 20-pin ATX connector but in the amount of ampers the power supply produces at +12V, for a single vga this has to be a minumum of 26A and for 2-vga 36A, got this from www.dfi-street.com(didn't know that there is such a website). Gonna get my power supply replaced for a more powerful one. Anyone having the same problem should definetly check their power supply ratings. I will post here if the computer boots. To others: thanks for all your help :)

Perhaps if you were running a pair of 6800Us in SLI that might cause problems, but not with a X600. Any decent 20-pin PSU will do fine.

the coolers of the mainboard also didn't turn on, neither did the power supply cooler.

You should check if your PSU is alright. Connect PIN 14 and GND as described here.

If your PSU is okay and you're sure that the connectors are on right then try powering on the board with RAM and graphics card removed. The board should come alive - of course not really getting anywhere but the fans must start spinning. If it doesn't, your board is faulty.

You'll by the way not be the first with a cranky DFI board
