Well, something cool happened to me yesterday. I was looking at CRT listings on Craigslist and I saw an ad for a P1110 "in perfect condition" for $70. A great deal I thought. So I went to the guy's house to check it out and discovered that it wasn't in perfect condition. The screen in general has a bluriness to it -- especially the text -- at all resolutions and refresh rates. I also just saw that the parentheses, rather than appearing to be a curved line, seem to have little "notches" in them. Just to note, I'm comparing this to my 4-year-old Viewsonic E90. Anyway, I also noticed that on this monitor the difference in refresh rates is way more apparent than on the E90 (where the difference between 60 and 85 Hz is barely noticable). My next observation was, "Damn, this monitor's bright as f***." After messing around with the settings, I wasn't able to lower the brightness to the point where the screen doesn't have a sort of white haze in front of it, while still preserving the richness of colors.
After going through this process, I told the guy selling it that I wasn't interested in buying it. So I left and headed back home. After arriving, I found a message on the machine from the seller asking me to give him a call. I did, and he told me that he really didn't want the monitor sitting around anymore and that he would give it to me for free if I came back and picked it up [woot!].
So now I'm sitting here with a semi-functional (in my opinion) Dell P1110 that has blurry/pixelated text and seems to be inordinately bright. So my questions are: 1) Is this normal for this monitor? 2) Is there any way to fix either of these problems?
Edit: Before anyone asks, I have adjusted contrast, brightness, and color temperatures all over the place and the screen still looks washed out, although not as bad as previously. I've also messed with the convergence and it seems like it was already at the optimal level.
