I am getting an Intel P4 550 http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=19-116-182&depa=0 with the BOXD915PBLL
http://www.newegg.com/app/View...=13-121-230&depa=0 mainboard along with a legal copy of XP PRO, for $200.00 plus shipping. The system will be used for all around use including some
DX 9 gaming, watching some DVD`s,PVR and Web surfing. My question is about DDR2, looking at this dual channel kit from Kingston http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/...p?ProductCode=85016-36 . I am hoping some here may have some insight whether or not this memory will suffice my needs. Please no posts on why I should get
an A64 system as I already have one. I will be ordering a 6600gt, serial HD using an Antec PS and case. I don`t have much experience with DDR2, just looking for feedback on this memory or other suggestions for system memory for this build. Thanks in advance.

I see you have chosen one of the motherboards actually made by Intel. IIRC, it is not one of their enthusiast versions and does not come with many overclocking options. Bearing this in mind I would say that this memory is fine for your needs. At this point there seems to be very little difference between quality brands of DDR2, i.e. Kingston, Corsair, Crucial, etc. more or less perform the same.

If you do need OC options then you should consider an alternative motherboard. AFAIK, most well known brands of PC4200 memory operate at 667MHz just fine so you should be OK with the memory, but it would be worth asking around if this is indeed the case.

Hope this helps.

patsfan33, i'm glad that you mentioned no convert posts beause this thread would be flooded with them

anyway, i dont see why the ram you selected would not meet your needs. the only thing i recommend is that you consider a gig of it

I will be getting this same $199 deal and haven't been able to find many matched pairs of DDR2 at all. It seems to be a bit scarce right now along with the 6600GT.
