At my job we use a program called Alldata. It uses 7 dvd discs to hold info on cars. I want to make a disc image and use daemon (virtual cd drive) to play it or something else. This way the cd's won't get all scratched like they do and it should be faster. Do I need a dvd burner to make a disc image? What is a good way to do this? Any help would be great.

No, you don't need a burner to make an image, just a DVD drive. There are several programs out there that will allow you to make a disc image, Nero and CloneCD are two of my favorites. CloneCD is the easiest, and it comes bundled with something called Virtual CloneDrive, which is just like daemon tools. Very cool stuff, and really easy to use.

The newest one, CloneCD 4.2 I believe. Here's a linky for you to their download site. Keep in mind it's not freeware. I believe you can do the same thing with daemon tools (free?), I've been too lazy to take a look at that software. The trial version would be a good, easy way to see if you want to go this route. LMK if you need any help setting it up.

I would just use CloneCD or something like that to read to image file and store it on your HDD. Mount it with Daemon like you said and you should be good to go. I was trying out the CloneCD virtual drive and it seems straightforward and simple ... but it started flaking out on me so I went back to Daemon Tools and I feel more comfortable again.
