Hi, I have never taken the time to figure out how to connect all of our tv equipment properly. So usually it involves disconnecting/connecting/sharing cables if we're going to watch Netflix or blu-ray, etc. I've never been able to figure out how to hear our surround sound with streaming Netflix thru our Netgear box. We have 3 hdmi inputs on the tv, so that's easy enough, but how can we get the sound to play on each device? right now we use an optical cable to the Xfinity X1 box for tv/dvds. And can unhook and do the same for blu-ray, but what a pain. Attached is a graphic of all components. I realize I may need to buy a switch or something.

most people use thier avr as a switch, run everything to it and one cable to the tv

if you have all devices going to the tv, you should be able to run an optical from it to the surround
