Help with Compaq Armada M300

My M300 stopped charging its battery and now whenever I unplug it from the electrical socket, it completely shuts off and I have to reinput the time. I even changed the lithium battery and I still have the same problem.

I don't think its a battery problem since the battery says it has a full charge.

I have a docking station and I still get the same results when I used the docking station.

What could cause a laptop to one day not charge its battery?

Any ideas?

When you say you change the lithium battery, I assume you put in a new RTC "clock" battery? I am also going to assume that you put in a lithium-ion RTC battery and not a standard lithium battery, like for a watch. If a regular lithium battery was installed, it could damage the battery or laptop when the laptop tries to charge it. If you put in the proper battery, make sure you plug in the laptop and turn it on and leave it on for 24 hours to properly charge that RTC battery. As far as the main Li-ION battery, well those do go bad after time and that is a 2.5-3.5 year old laptop. I have seen those batteries go from working off of battery, even for only a few minutes, to not working at all. Try FedCo Electronics for a 3rd party battery replacement.

Thanks.

Yeah, I meant I replaced the "watch" battery because the laptop would not retain the clock unless it was plugged in.

The strange thing is, even with a new watch battery, it still does not retain the clock.

That is why I am baffled by the problem. I want to make sure before I go and invest in a new battery, that it is for certain the battery and not something else.
