Hello ,

I got accepted to two universities , one is fine (OU), but didn't accept me in Engineering school , and other is pretty low rated uviversity(CSU) but in my city, so I would be able to live at home , I would say it equals to the OU school, before engineering school

so, I have two choices:
1.) study 1st year in CSU , live at home , then try to transfer to some better univer. , but I'm sure it will be very difficult for me ; (

2.) study in OU , and on 2nd year transfer to Eng. school , this transfer should go much smoother and easier, becuase it's the same school , but live on campus ...

Well , I would've choose second choice , but the problem is that my parents are very against it ; ( ... they don't want me to leave house ; ( ... and that's suxx ... what would you recommend ?

Thanks,
bye.

I would choose option #2. Parents are going to have to live with the fact that you're growing up.

If I had the choice again, I would go to a school as far away from home as possible. Nothing is worse than your parents nagging you about stuff when you're 20 years old.

Yeah the parents are going to have to live with it. Leave now and make it easier for them to let go. Besides, you are going to visit on holidays, right?

yeah , money is no big issue here ...

and that other(OU) univer is just about 4 hours of my or my dad's driving from home ; ) .. so I could visit them pretty often

so , it looks like option #2 ... well , we'll see ...

SpongeBob gives you sage advice. That is why I do not go home now. Being 21, then questioned about what I am doing is crazy.

Do NOT live at home. You will regret it. Sure, rent is expensive, but well worth it. Hell, my roommate is from Louisville, but he couldn't stand living at home. So he moved in with me on the otehr side of town. Sure, he is only 20-30 minutes from his folks, but that is enough distance to live his own life.

It doesn't matter which College you go to unless the scale tips heavily to one side. The best bet is to talk to students from both schools & ask them for their opinion, and look over the courses that both offers (go for the one that offer good co-op/intern). As for a college life; it doesn't matter how a person education differ between living at home or on own place, because it is how dedicate you are at your own education. If you can afford to live on your own then that is great, other wise it could be tough at times holding down a full-time job and take a full course load at the same-time (speaking from exp.)

I would definately try to live at school the first year (the dorms if possible). I had a great experience living in dorms the first year, then moving off to an apartment with friends for the next three years (UCLA). Moved back home for grad school saving a lot of money, so I was debt-free by the time a ventured out into the real world.

Living on the dorms, although more expensive, will definately teach a student to be more independant if he lived at home. So you have to look at what kind of person you are.

Some students just bascially destroy themselves in college in dorms because their parents are not there. So, they get lazy, miss class, and flunk out of school. So that's one thing you gotta be careful of.

BTW, you mentioned CSU? Would you mean california state university?
