Help with classic rock intrumental

MadRat

I was listening to a classic rock radio station here in Omaha today and heard a 6-8 minute long instrumental. My first thought was to ask a co-worker who then said it was probably Eric Johnson and his release named "Cliffs of Dover". When I got home and found that one on Kazaa it was not the same instrumental. This one was pretty upbeat and built to a good climax. I do remember that it was the main sound piece from an HBO movie twenty years ago (or more) about motorcycle racers in a European race circuit. (Really kind of cool movie I might add.) Think the movie was called "Superbike", but don't remember for sure as it was from a European moviemaker and it probably has more than one title depending on where you see it... Anyways, this instrumental has always caught my attention. Any idea what it could be?

With LOTS of guitar flares and solos? DUDE... I think I know what you're talking about, and that song KICKS ASS....

nik (doesn't know what it is, though)

Yeah, lots of flares of the guitar and some synthesized stuff, too.

Its not Lynard Skynard's freebird, sorry.

I'm south of Bellevue but work in Omaha. 😉

Its not Frankenstein. Another good song, but this one has no words in it.

I wish HBO had a listing of every movie they've shown the past twenty years. It used to play almost daily it was such a low budget flick. hehe

Good guesses, but none of them fit.

This is more of a symphonic, ambient, and electronic sound all combined.

More information on the movie might help jog memories around here:

PLOT: Guy discovers new lightweight materials (composite plastics) and shaves weight off of his racing motorcycle. Mix in cheesie love story. Guy tries to sell the design to manufacturers but they aren't impressed by his stuff. He tries to show off his stuff but he has technical problems with his bike and it keeps him from winning. One big race at the end of the movie is his last chance. He wins the race at the end - not just wins but his design allows him to jump out ahead of the competition unchallenged and he revs his motor out to new record speeds. The theme song plays as he races... of course he wins the girl, too.

98% of all Rush songs have 6-8 minute instrumentals that fit your description. Although Boston sounds right for a budget motorcycle fim.

That is close to the right timeframe for the movie, and the general idea! 🙂 However, I saw it once on the shelf at Blockbuster video and it was called "Superbike". Pretty sure HBO called it "Superbike", too.

Cross the following two songs together and you'll get close to it:

A Classical Rock by Frank Mills
Cliffs of Dover by Eric Johnson

Any way to find out its soundtrack?

I searched for more info, but no dice. I only found the cast and director. 🙁

But by your description, this has to be the movie. No other movie out there matches your story line.

You know, you could try calling your radio station and asking them to check their play list for that day.

If it's the song in the Buick commercial with Tiger Woods, I think it's Stevie Ray Vaughn's "Very Superstitous." Is that it?

Edit: Just out of curiousity, were you listening to Z-92? Call them and describe the song to the DJ. They might be able to tell you what it is.
