Hi everyone, I've been reading the forum most of the day, and I've found it very helpful. I just recently purchased a new athlon DDR system and things are wonderful. Now all I need to finish it up is a monitor. I can't ever seem to decide on which monitor to choose from since there are so many monitors out there.
I plan on using my computer doing a variety of things. I will probably be programming & browsing tutorials on the web frequently meaning I want text to be very sharp. I plan on also running my desktop at 1280x1024 with sometimes going to 1600x1200 for Maya or 3DsMax. Also I am a frequent game player of course. So basically I need my monitor to do the works. I have rounded up my choices to three monitors.
Samsung 900NF - $400
NEC/Mitsubishi DP920 - $400
Sony CPD-G400 - $440
The Samsung 900NF was recommended at SharkyExtreme as a very good monitor. It uses the same tube as the NEC/Mitsubishi which is the Diamondtron and a has a .25 mm dot pitch. From reviews it is a pretty good monitor. Supporting a pretty damn high resolution of 1880 x 1440 or something like that at a pretty decent Hz, but that makes no difference to me since I won't ever run it past 1600 x 1200.
The NEC/Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 920, also uses a Diamondtron monitor. But this one has a uniform dot pitch of .24 mm! I've been leaning towards this monitor because it does what I need perfectly. And from the uniform .24 mm dot pitch it seems that this would be the sharpest monitor. The monitor itself also has a very sleek design and takes up the less space too! It's also the newest one.
Then there's the Sony one. This one is $40 more and I don't think it's that justified. I have heard the color on a Sony Trinitron is very nice. Like more vivid then the diamond trons, but crispness wise the diamondtrons win because of their uniform .24 dot pitch. The Sony CPD-G400 has a variable, not uniform .24-.25 dot pitch. Also this model has been around since 1998 almost and it's quite bulky compared to the other ones. I have also heard horror stories of Sony warranty on this product and defects with this one.
I was wondering for any user input I can get regarding which monitor I should choose. Thanks a lot for hearing me out =)
