Help with Celeron Please

I have a new Abit VH6t motherboard lying around and am thinking that I would build a low end machine using a 1 Gig Celeron.

I'm confused. Newegg has a Celeron FC-PGA2 Retail Celeron for $49 this weekend.

My manual say that the motherboard is designed for PIII FC-PGA & FC-PGA@& Celeron FC-PGA with 370 pin design.

Can I assume that the FC-PGA2 does not work with this board? Sounds like it.

The FCPGA2 packaging for Intel's S370 chips has a different pin layout from the FCPGA chips. I think that you can get the FCPGA 2 chips to work but you have to modify the board and chip in some way. So, for a shot answer, no they will not work out of the box.

Thanks for the info. This was not a good idea.

I'll start sniffing around for a good deal on stuff for a P4.
