Purchase a Mazda CX-7, factory speakers and radio are junk.

Replacing radio with Pioneer 2400BT(really i am not looking for anaything fancier, GPS, HD radio, etc...)

Question I have is for speakers. I have not replaced speakers in a car since high school long time ago).

The CX-7 has front and back 6X8. I have my eye on Polk(or really my ear)

for the front

but what size is good for the back? another 6.5", 6X8 or a 6X9(will it fit?)

also keep in mind I am going to be adding 1 12" subwoofer in the near future.

6x9 will be more bass heavy in general. But, since you plan on adding subs I'd go for a 6.5" components.

I've seen a lot of people claim that the non-round speakers (especially 6x9) have more bass but tend to sound muddy compared to similar sized round speakers. I've never listened to a high end 6x9 though so I can't really comment with any authority, but comparing a low end 6x9 to a low end 6.5" I prefer the sound of the round speaker. That may have more to do with the quality of the speaker at that price point rather than the shape of the driver though.
