Help with car A/C

I took my car climate control knob panel (the panel to control hot cold, intensity of airflow, defrost, and foot or head settings, etc..) off one too many times and now it's fvcked. The thing is the last time my dad and I refilled the A/C was not too long ago. So now I've tried about a million different ways of rewiring the one part of the panel that has not been connecting properly (I've taken the panel off so many times that one of the connector's contacts got rubbed badly and does not make contact any more.... So now what happens is that the defrost button for the rear doesn't work and my cold A/C settings don't work any more. But a weird thing is that when it's on the hot setting, it blows hot, but it only blows warm when it's on cold. I'm wondering if the defrost's relay is a temperature limited relay (I don't even know if they make those) or if some of the wires are not connecting. Any Ideas? Are some of the wires still not making contact? This is not good cause I'm moving down to Arizona in august and definitely gonna need an A/C.... I'm almost to the point at chopping off the old connector and hardwiring the motherfvcker in there
