Help with Canon A510 Digital Camera please

Purchased this camera for my sister. We took a few pictures, but while trying to connect to computer via USB, I was unable to see an "extra drive" containing the images. Device manager recognized the camera under imaging devices, newest drivers installed, software from cd was installed, It just does not show up as an extra drive (Which it should). Anyone had this happen to them before??

P.S. I also tried this on an older P3 with USB but that pc didn't even recognize the camera.

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest checking the menu of the camera to see what mode the transfer is in. I know that on my Nikon it has two options: one is PTP and the other says mass storage (something like that). I usually leave it on mass storage and it detects it properly. If all else fails, you may need to check with Canon.

I think I will take it back to the store where I purchased it and see if they can show me. Otherwise I think you are right about contacting canon.

Thanks.

Read the manual before you take it back - you don't want some dumbass 16yo on minimum wage smirking at your stoopidity.
If you still can't see a setting, then look up some reviews, and they might be talking about the issue.
Otherwise after that - if still no luck - take it back.

For instance, does this help?

I wouldn't have posted here unless I've read the manual, and searched the internet. And here is my conclusion.

I took it back to future shop and asked them to check it on one of their machines, and it works, just like it's supposed to, so that ultimately means that there is something wrong with both machines I've tested it on. One being out of date, and the other, probably damaged mobo due to my over-the-top overclocking-gone-wrong 😀. All in all, if it worked at the store, I am almost certain that it will work on my sisters compute (which is fairly new and not overclocked 😀)
