HElp with building HTPC

I like to build HTPC where I can connect to a tv via VGA or video cable. I many videos and have a receiver I ilke to hook so that I can do vidoe and audio on the same pc too. IF anyone has any expeirence with this, please let me know. any links or tips would be greatly apprecaited. =D

in the past i have used an interface device made by "Dazzle".

input -
TV composite video (what is the correct term ?)(look like stereo cables)

output - Firewire

in that case i used an Adaptec Firewire card. & spent many hours compressing
my VHS version of the "Matrix" in various forms. circa 2003.

a lot of video cards have a "video in video out" connector. they come with
a mating cable - which i think also has composite video connectors. i've
never installed that.

what do you want to do with it once you get the videos into the computer ?
sort of like have a "jukebox" that has a bunch of movies and music ...

anyway, hope that helped. i know there's more modern stuff.

I have movies and music lots of them in my hard drive and basically i rather just watch it instead of burning them to dvd and stuff like in order to watch it. i have a 32 lcd tv i love to connect to it. i just basically which sound card and video card can allow me do that
