Hi Guys, I have a pretty simple question but a long story to tell b4 it lol-
Hopefully this is the right place for it
I finally got my OC on my system stable- ran alot of tests and made sure its solid. I then went to install the final peice of software i needed which was KasperSky 6.0, Now my system consisits of a evga 780i mobo,QX9650, 2 GB patriot DDR2-1200 extreme ram and alot more lol- Anyways its a WC based system, and its been awesome to OC- no major issues whatsoever.
Anyways this is the second BSOD i have ran into (the first being an issue with memory dividers) What happened as far as i can tell is I installed kaspersky and the install was having some issues, anyways i had to retry and installed it finally- thereafter it asked to update so i said update now- and it downloaded a bunch of updates- it then said update failed and something went wrong so i updated again there, The update then took like 5 seconds and said update complete nothing needs to be updated.
Anyways i found it kind of odd and i restarted the computer as it asked- When i rebooted, I got into windows but about 45 seconds after (whilst it was trying to boot up start up programs i presume) I got a BSOD it stated Bad_Pool_Caller. Anyways i restarted again and got into windows again 45 secs later another BSOD this time stating Driver_IRQL_ not less than etc. Ive seen the previous BSOD b4 and so i restarted and booted into Safe Mode which was fine- right there i thought it cant be my hardware- Anyways I tried to get into windows again and failed it bsod' with a bad pool caler again.
So I researched these two BSODS and right away people stated its prob a memory problem while all the solutions never ended up really being a Memory Problem more of a OS/Driver issue. I know Memory's usually the first place to presume something went wrong- so i assumed its not the mmory and a driver issue- esp being the 780i i assumed one of the drivers conflicted or the Installation went corrupt and everytime Windows tried booting up kaspersky in the start it would BSOD.
Anyways I re installed fully and am not having the issue again- I got kind of worried because alot of people were pointing these BSODs to Memory (usually because the poster had same issue and swapped his ram and it fixed it lol) whilst most of the solutions and lot of other comments stated these two BSOD's were driver based, but I wanted to make sure my system was rock solid stable. My ram is not being OC'd at all- and is brand new.
So I did a big stability run lol:
8 hrs prime95 blend then
2 hrs OCCT set on RAM
3 full passes of Memtest86+
8 hrs prime95 Small FFT
then did a DSKCHK (which found free space allocated so it corrected it- this was probably because i switched to a RAID array on this new install) and did a HD TUNE Error test on the raid array.
All of this Passed and 0 ERRORS!
All in one day one after the other.
I know after this that its definitely not hardware related lol Im very happy its rock solid:
Now my question-
A) Anyone here know what these two bsods point to- I know Driver_IRQL means a bad driver or something software related and bad pool caller seems to be the same response while others as i said before stated its prob RAM.
B) My main question- i spent money on Kaspersky but im afraid if i install it again im gonna have the same issues and same paranoia - But im quite shocked that its such a crappy program, I remember it having issues the first couple times i ran it on my old system but quite a few ppl rave about it tho it seems to have nothing but problems, I can almost 99% gurantee this is what the BSOD's were caused by as its no coincidence that after getting a corrupt install it started BSOD'ing afterwards.
But Should I be using Kaspersky? Do you guys reccomend something else?
Thanks for the help and im really sorry for the long story lol
Hopefully this is the right place for it
