Help with BIOS flash screwup EDIT: now sound issues.

Setting up a computer for a friend here. Was having problems running both sticks of OCZ ram so I decided to flash the BIOS to see if it would fix it. Flashed using the windows flash tool that DFI has on their website using "update all" (if anyone is familiar with the program). It said it flashed OK so I rebooted. Now the BIOS will POST but instead of handing off to the OS it just reboots. It will do the POST, then reboot thing forever if I let it. It won't boot to anything.

I have reset everything to factory defaults hoping it would help but it didn't. What can I do here? I've never had a problem flashing all of the mobos that I've had until this one.

I've read that some mobos have a BIOS storage function (or was it multiple BIOSes?) where you can short some jumpers to copy it over or boot from the second one..... Does this mobo have that? I can't find any info on it.

turn off the power and pull the plug
remove cmos battery
move cmos jumper to clear position
after a few minutes replace the cmos jumper
replace battery
remove all ram, install "one" stick in the orange slot furthest from the cpu
plug power back in
boot and load optimized defaults
save and exit
that should get it going again,.... btw what bios did you flash to 623-3?

yep, 623-3

i tried booting it a little bit ago to mess around with it. now it doesn't even want to POST.

that, or the sh!tty monitor i'm using died or something. homework time

thanks for the help... got it running again.

scored 40xx in 3dmark05

can't get the sound working though. nothing muted, drivers are installed.

Anyone with this mobo have any ideas?

Stinkynathan:

I would suggest that the next time you flash bios, that you use the bootable diskette method (if it is available) as opposed to flashing from Windows.

Good luck.

Thats what I ended up doing. I just figured I'd use the windows flasher since I didn't have a floppy drive in the thing at that point. fixed now though.

just gotta get sound
