I'm helping a friend build a new PC and we're stuck and looking for some help. The motherboard we have is a ASUS P4B533-E with a Pentium 4 2.4Mhz processor.

We had Windows XP succesfully installed an everything was working fine for about a day. Now when we boot up the PC locks up. When were are able to get into the BIOS we get the following error

During the last boot up, your system hung for an improper CPU speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU.

Here are a couple of settings in the BIOS

CPU Speed: 2400 Mhz
CPU frequency Multipe: 18x (this setting is locked)
CPU External Frequency(MHz): 133

I'm stuck as to what to do next to try and trouble shoot this. I think it might have somethign to do with the CPU speed and someone mentioned something about the front side bus but I'm not sure exactly where to find this or how to change it. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Have you tried reading your manual?

This is part of Asus's CPU Parameter Recall technology which occurs when you have run your system too far out of spec. Load default settings and start over.

The BIOS is very simple. Look around a little --> Advanced/Chip Configuration.

Read some of these reviews to get a handle on this board/BIOS.
