Help with backup dvd.

I made a dvd backup of all of my important stuff before I formatted my hd. After a fresh install of windows I cannot get it to completely read the dvd. What I mean is that it will open the dvd directory and I can view all of the files and properties. I just can't get it to copy the files onto my hd. Actually it did copy the first 3 or 4 files from the dvd then I got a cyclic redundancy error or something similar.
I rebooted and now I can only view the contenets. I can't actually open them or copy them.
I'm probably screwed but I was hoping someone here could offer some insight.
I have alot of vacation pics, wedding pics, honeymoon, etc. I really don't want to lose them.

Did you update windows?

Try updating the firmware on your drive or goign to another computer to read the disc, then transfering through the network.

1) Bad quality DVD corrupted.
2) You accidently set a time limit on the DVD during burn.
3) Your pics are Fed!

Windows has been updated.
Firmware has been updated.
I tried it in my laptop dvd drive and it wouldn't even read.
I did make sure the dvd had all of the content on it before I formatted.

I tried copying the first few files again and it works. It's just the latter files that give an error "Cannot read from source". I guess I'm SOL but seeing that it shows the files and even the properties I was hoping to be able to salvage them.
Is there any utility out there that may be able to get the data from the dvd?

What brand of DVD's are they? I'm afraid the data is lost.

burn speed?

I originally burned it @ 8x.

I tried to make a copy of the dvd onto another dvd to see if that would work but it didn't. I tried it @ 4x and 2x. Still gave errors.

Then I found a nice little free program called CDCheck. I was able to get back all of my pictures using it. It took about 3 hours though but worth it.
