Help with ATi vid card ... boot-time settings?

I have an ATI vid card (X800 XL) with the VGA hooked to the monitor and the S-video output running to a nearby TV. I only turn on the "extended desktop" (aka the TV) to watch movies or whatever on the TV from the computer.

This is all great except that when booting, the monitor displays "video mode not supported" and I can't see any info until the Windows splash screen comes up. The only way around that is to either turn on the TV, where I can see the boot info, or yank the S-video cable out of the video card.

It's just a minor annoyance, but is there any way to fix this - to leave the S-video plugged in and still see the boot info on the monitor? I sometimes will want to boot from a CD or floppy, or perhaps run a bootloader, and this really gets in the way. Again, it does this even though the "extended desktop" is OFF.

Thanks,
