Just got my new card in today and having some problems

Here goes....

Dell 8100 w/ P4 1.7 and winXP. Previous to the new ATI card I had a Geforce 2 mx400 agp, card worked fine, just wanted to upgrade. Problem is, when I put the card in, and start up the pc, it shows the dell screen and then goes to a blank black screen with a white blinking cursor up top. i thought i was being impaiteint but ive waited 10 mintues for it to load with no luck. Ive restarted a million times and try to get into bios and it still goes to the same screen.

Once i put the Geforce card back in, everything is back to normal. Ive checked the ATI site and havent found anything specific to my problem. I checked here and also did not find anything.

Maybe once ever 10 times upon restarting, i get a dell message saying something about a (Cnic) error??? checked Dells support page, but also found nothing.

If you still with me, ANY help would be appreciated. The card was purchased brand new, so unless by some chance the card is bad, i dont suspect the problem is with the card. TIA.

also, ive removed the nivida drivers and reformated the drive with no luck.

You might want to check the forums at www.rage3d.com for a better response but...

Try changing some the bios settings to default or lower before you switch the card out.
If you get the AIW running after that you can go back and tweak them higher.

sundog: no and no
cQuinn: will head over there after i post this. Thanks!

aiight check this out....

I put the card back in, and booted the pc (hit f12 this time for boot select options) and like normal it went to the black screen with the white blinking cusor. so since i was completely out of options, i figured i would call ati. while i was on hold (bout 15 mins) i get a boot select option asking me to boot to: normal, cdrom, harddisk or floppy. so i choose normal and it booted to windows! XP found most of the drivers, and while it was up i applied all the latest patches and updates. The only problem is that whenever i restart, it still takes like 15 mins for these options to appear so it will load windows.

Im completely stumped now. I was thinkin there was a problem with the card, but doesnt this prove me wrong? Has anyone ever seen anything similiar to this? I cant be the only one with the card that is having problems.

O well, if anything, atleast if anyone else runs into this problem, they will know the steps that i took to atleast get the operating system to load.

antisoft did you get rid of the gforce drivers?ati cards are very picky if not set back to standard agp video adapter before installation of an ati card

since you didn't say you did i hope this helps also win xp on my ati all in one radeon i do not load drivers i let the os handle drivers then update at ati's website hope this helps

WAHOOOO!!! I got it! It was an IRQ conflict... I forgot about the onboard NIC and that was conflicting with all the extras the all in wonder offers. (agp, firewire, usb for the remote, etc.) O well, live and learn. Thanks for all the help.
