I'm getting my ATI 9700 Pro AIW card today and I'm just curious about the driver install. I know there has been a new driver release kind of recently. should i just download it and use it or do I need to install the software from the disks that come with it first then update.

Thanks

The latest drivers from the internet should be just fine but make sure you get all the pieces including all the optional software. I believe you will need the disk for the DVD software but other than that I don't think you will need the CD.

You'll definately want the CD to install MMC8. Install the latest Cat 3.1 drivers, WDM capture drivers and control panel from ATI. Then install MMC off the CD using a custom install and uncheck the drivers and control panel installs so you don't overwrite the drivers you just installed.

MMC = Multimedia Center, its the software suite that includes the Media players, Digital VCR, and library applets.

Ive got a friend with this card, he is having major problems.

He's got an Epox 8k7a with a 1.4 T-bird, running pc2100 memory. Right now he can get the computer to boot, but that is only after buying a new powersupply and updating the BIOS.

He originally tried using the downloaded drivers from ATI's website, and he could not get anything to work. Games had horrible grid lines, and everything was just shot.

So he uninstalled and went to the CD drivers. Now when he boots, there are grid lines all over the screen, and it is barely visible. But sometimes this can be fixed by pushing in the DVI connector. But still there are refresh problems. An internet explorer screen will not "pop up", but rather slowly load itself from top to bottom whenever he opens a new page.

His computer was working fine with his old Geforce3, but now there are tons of problems.

Has anyone experienced any of this? Does anyone have any solutions? Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, got the problem figured out with his card. Im not sure why, but it was his Sound Blaster LIve card that was messing with things. So, he got rid of that, and it seems to be working ok.

I would recomend installing everything from the CD first, then download the latest drivers.
I've had issues with Soundblaster and my AIW 8500DV.
I picked up a Yamaha DP-U50/CAVIT external audio processor and I was expecting problems but everything is working great.
