I am about to upgrade my duron processor to an thlon chip. I found a pretty good deal on a 1.2 athlon, but it's a 266fsb model. Am I correct in assuming the following: I've heard that all 1.2 athlon 266 chips come factory unlocked, so I should be able to run it at 12 X 100 and still have the chip run at 1.2, right? Any help would be appreciated.

I dont know for sure if all 1.2 Ghz Athlon 266 Mhz comes unlocked from factory. I see many ppl with this chip unlocked from factory.
But assuming that you get it a unlocked chip, you just need to change the MULTIPLIER to 12x. At the first POST probably it will be 900 Mhz, so just change the the MULTIPLIER to 12x and it will boot at 1200 Mhz.

Good luck!

we have two 1.2 GB 266 t-birds.
both are unlocked.
it first booted at 900. then changed to multiplier of 12 = 1200.
then changed to multiplier of 9 and fsb 133 = 1200 Mhz.

correct me if I'm wrong, but I"m pretty sure that the kt7 won't do 133mhz fsb...at least not without an architectural overhaul on the board. Try at 12x100 it should run.

KT7 based on KT133 won't do 133mhz FSB unless the planet's
are in perfect alignment.

1.2 Ghz @ 266 FSB is all unlocked. U can change the multiplier.

U can't set the FSB to 133 thou coz KT133 mobo rarely go beyond 110 FSB. Multiplier is the only thing u can adjust.

Thanks for all the input. I know that my kt7 wont do 133 fsb,and I just wanted to verify that I would be able to install the chip, enter bios, and change multiplier X bus to 12X100, vs the default 9 X 133
