Asus a7n8x problems

I am in the process of building only my second system from scratch so I am not sure if the problems I am having are related to my board or my inexperience. I received my board from newegg and placed into my case (after installing my cpu, memory and heatsink) to replace my old epox mobo. After attaching it to the standoffs I plugged in the power connector. I noticed the green led light down by the pci slots was glowing so I turned on the power at the button on the front of the case. The cpu fan, case fan and power supply fan turned on for about a second and then stopped. After turning off and then back on the power switch on the back of the power supply and then hitting the button the same thing happened. I replaced the asus with my epox and everything fired up no problem. I am using my athlon 1200 until I get the funds for a new cpu.
System specs:
Antec true power 350 power supply
Asus a7n8x del mainboard
2x256 crucial pc2700 memory

Right now all I am trying to do is make sure things are working before I worry about video cards hard drives and the like. Any suggestions?

The green light means the board has power from the switch on the power supply being on. When the PS switch is off the green light won't be on and you can't power up the system via the front case power button. You'd want the green light off while working on the motherboard.

I would double and triple check that you have the pins setup right for the power/hd led/reset/speaker/etc headers. Also make sure the standoffs are lining up correctly with the holes in the motherboard otherwise you could be shorting something out which would cause it not to boot.

I have another Asus board here (266a chipset). The green light on my motherboard is not controlled by the power switch on the front of the computer. I think that is because most of the ATX boards are "hot" all the time. To make the green LED go out, I must unplug the power supply cord (some power supplies have a switch that you could use).

As far as the fans coming on and off when you push the front power switch, maybe you need a video card installed before the on board BIOS will go any farther. I always use ram, vid, monitor, keyboard, mouse for my first power on. That way, you can see any messages.
