Help with annoying disk scratching sound even there's no activity

My SCSI C drive is making some sounds like it read/write something even when there's no activity at all. The PC is running on WinXP Pro, 758MB RAM (it's using only 350MB now), I put 768MB for paging file in another IDE HDD. That's annoying when that sound's there constantly...

Please help, Thank you very much.

My Quantum Atlas 10k SCSI drive self-calibrates when its temperature has changed enough, with a loud BZZZTTT!!! - BZZZZZTTT!!! (well, as if that drive ever did anything that was NOT loud

). My Cheetah X15-36LP sometimes does stuff by itself too, probably self-checks of some kind. I wouldn't worry about it (from a hardware standpoint, I mean... you could still have viruses/trojans or whatnot).

If I remember correctly, you can have an LVD SCSI bus up to 12 meters long. External enclosure... 10-meter SCSI cable... let your drive play all the Solitaire it wants, down in the basement 🙂 Ok ok, I know that would be expensive.
