Help with an overclock...

Trifecta

Senior member
OK, so I finally got the P3700 / 100mhz

I have a P3v4X and an Asus Slocket with Voltage jumpers on the slocket.

I tried to overclock through the bios by going to 112. I couldnt get it to post without errors.

Am I doing something wrong, or should I overclock using the dip switches. Is there anything I am missing ?

Do I need to set the AGP multiplier?

If so, to what? 2/3 ..?

Also, is there some other settings that I need to adhere to with the bios?

How about trying to go to something like 101 or 102 first? I'm pretty sure that that board allows for pretty precise control of the FSB. 112 is quite a jump.

Just to cover all the basics. You will probably need to up the voltage some. Make sure and set your AGP multiplier to 2/3 and this PCI Bus to 1/3. And like Paulip88 said, start small and work your way up. Just for reference, most of the entries in the database at Overclockers.com use about 1.8 volts to get decent speeds. Good Luck. If I think of anything else I'll post it. Anybody else?

Thanks,

AGP multiplier to 2/3 and this PCI Bus to 1/3

that was what I was looking for.

Yeah, I looked at that database and noticed the voltages for my particular chip.

My worry is that I need to mess with the voltage settings on my slocket.

I have them set to default now, and the mobo has the jumperless mode also. So, I figured I could do all my adjustments through the bios. Am I wrong to assume this? Or, do I need to manually set the voltage on the slocket and leave the jumperless mode on the mobo, or vice versa?

It depends on the MB. Not sure in your case. Certain MB will only allow certain voltages. My Abit BE6-II only goes up to 1.75. This is all I needed. Others have set voltage on the slocket and gotten it to work. Good Luck.

Well, one thing you can do for mb's that don't support higher voltages, is to force a higher "default" voltage with the slotket.

For example, the p3v4x, i believe, can go .20 volts over default. If you set your slotket to 1.7, then you could push the voltage on your cpu up to 1.9 via the bios.

Of course, pushing to 1.9 is a bit much.
