Help with an old-school computer

hi all, i have an old packard bell, and its givin me some problems. I am working on this computer for a friend, and they wanted more ram, and a bigger hard drive put in it, which i have done. every time i try to install an os, it locks the comp up when it is getting ready to run it for the first time. it will install the os, but not run it. does anyone know why i am getting this prob, if u do, lemme kno

i was going to try windows 98 and even millenium if i can. or should i try 2k pro?.. we're talkin bout a p 233 mmx proc here, so i cant get that new of an os.. ne ideas.. ive tried win98 and mill, but they both do the same thing

Well, does the bios recognize that hard drive? I am not sure if those older pentium era motherboards supported a 20GB HD or not. 🙁

Pull out the modem and then try to do the reinstall. The OS could be hanging on the hardware detection.

Also, are you sure you did the "drive overlay" install properly? I mean, if you were to boot from a DOS disk after the Drive overlay splash screen and do a DIR /s do you see 20 gigs total of space or do you only see 8.4gigs?

If you only see 8.4 the overlay is not properly installed. There should be a "Disk Mananger" or whatever it's called splash screen right before it says "Starting Windows,MS-DOS, etc etc"
