I want a pretty good one but not too expensive. Nothing over $30. Send me links and suggestions on which one to get. THank you
I kinda like the looks of Aercool's "Copper Extreme", but I haven't tried one yet. Thermaltake's Extreme Volcano is often on sale less than $30, the Silent Boost is also often available in that range, as is the Vantec AeroFlow. I was using an AeroFlow, the one with the odd "TMD" fan (no center hub - powered from the TIPS of the fan blades), with my own XP 2800 and it did pretty doggone well in that PC, but it couldn't keep up well enough with an OC'd XP 3000 (a second Vantec AeroFlow, same model, on a different system). The older "Petal Style" (what else to call it?) Zalman HSF was very efficient and the price was right. The more current version is a total pain to mount, isn't suitable for half or more of the MB's due to size and the required holes through the MB, and with shipping, usually goes well over the $30.
The stock AMD fan's heat sink fills up with dust rapidly if you have pets or otherwise have the PC in a dust-prone area; you need to remove the fan itself and use an air can to blow the heat sink clean. There's a comment about Spire's Whisper Rock heat sink in the thread (of which there have been several), but I have tried one of the "Model IV" Whisper Rocks and didn't think it was any more efficient than the stock one (and maybe less), although it is most certainly quieter. I kept the base part, and swapped on a fan that moved a lot more air, so it cost a lot more than the msrp of $14.95 before I was done. It's on an XP 2200, and pretty good now,
WITH that better fan.
There are veritable jillion different cpu heat sinks you could buy. I think you can look at a couple of hundred different models just among what Newegg offers (well, it seems that they have cut way back on how many that they offer, there were fewer than 40 in the range $25 to 35). One of the very best sources of good objective data about them is the Frosty Tech web site:

During a fast look there, I didn't see that they had ever reviewed the particular Thermaltake HSF you named.
