Yeah I am a fan of AMD products. I dont need the best, just something that will last me and do the job.

Well, perhaps a Phenom II X4 then? Or are those extra two cores going to put to good use with apps that scale beyond four cores?

When are you going to build this? I'd wait on the SSD for Intel's G3 and see what it does to prices. Also, a Phenom II X4 is recommended a lot more for gaming than Thuban. You also picked a Mb with integrated graphics. The RAM is too excessive, especially for gaming. Differences in clock speeds, etc. are felt minimally. You want a HDD for data and most gaming apps as 60GB is not going to cut it =[.

I'd suggest replacing each of the parts I listed above with

Phenom II X4 955/965
MSI 790X-G45
G.Skill DDR3-1333 (with the regular heatspreader)
Samsung F3 1TB (wait on the SSD for a hopeful price drop)

What resolution do you game at? You might be able to get by with a GTX460 or a 6850.

Honestly I want to place the order today. Please could you suggest an alterntative build for a similar price? If I am going away from the X6 I would then think about looking at Intel setups.

I will use this for mainly gaming, watching HD videos. I like to run most games at high rez 1900 x ???.

I do want to try a SS boot Drive. I have other storage drives that are new already. The SSD is only for booting and whatever game I happen to be playing at the time.

Your plan for the SSD sounds fine, and those additional HHD will come in useful as a secondary, even if they are only a "Green" or external storage drive for additional games and back-up of your primary.

The 1075T is the most relevant CPU I think AMD sells right now. I run a X6 1055T paired with 1600Mhz ramm because 1600 speed allows me to OC to 3.8Ghz without crippling the divider. Future apps will get more and more multithreaded, so... I support the X6.

Getting the 880G or 890GX board is cool too. I am digging my MSI 890GX, very good quality + features.

The 470 is really an irrelevant card right now. Go for an OC'd 460 or the 6870 for the speed or the efficiency. I have my MSI cycle 460 at 850Mhz with no voltage change @ mid 40-50C temps while loaded.

The SSD is nice and should be in all current builds IMO, you can manage multiple games installed with 60Gbs but if you can afford reach for 80-120Gbs, ie Steam (TF2, Alien Swarm, Fall out NV), CoD4, HoN, ... etc.

Best of luck.

I agree that you should go Intel. The X6 is pretty much pointless for gaming since all games that I know of top out a 4 threads. Intel is just plain faster than AMD clock-for-clock. If you drop your silly RAM to something more reasonable, you will be able to easily afford an i5 760 build.

Keep everything the same except for:
i5 760 + P7P55D-E LX $299 AR
G.Skill DDR3 1333 4GB $60

your amd selection will be fine but i'd go with a 1055t becuase they overclock fiarly well and will save you a few $$$. gtx470 and the 6870 are both great cards.

Ditch the onboard video though.
