Yo...

I am on the verge of purchasing a brand-spanking new AMD Athlon 1Ghz and an ABIT KT7A, and was wondering if i needed to buy a CPU cooler, or does it come with the mobo? I am alos buying some silver conductive paint for oc'ing, so i'm gradually decreasing on my cashflow :(....but i'll have a really fast rig :)....cheers in advance

You do need a CPU cooler, they do not come with the board. A nice Taisol should suit you fine. You also might want to try a Iwill KK266 or a Asus A7V133 instead of the Abit if you will be overclocking. :)

Are you buying a retail processor?

If so then you will get a basic heatsink with it (unless AMD is different to Intel)

<<I dont think i will oc as i just want stability>>

That rules out Abit. I highly suggest you spend a few extra bucks and get either the Iwill or Asus as many people have been complaining about the quality and stability of Abit boards.

Ummm...the KT7A is one of the most expensive KT133A boards isn't it? The Iwill KK266 is only $110 @ Newegg, while the KT7A is $110 as well. The KT7A with shipping is actally $3 more.

i have abitkt7 and tbird 900. not knowing about 4-in-1 drivers, i had to format and install 98 about 4 times to get the PC to not crash. once you getthe 4-in1-drivers and all other drivers installed in the CORRECT ORDER - your system is stable as a rock. kt7 was recommended Tbird 900 but the heatsink was hard to get on..hadto use a screw driver to get the heatsnik over it...dangerous, a slip and smash is the mobo.

building new 1.2gz with asus board soon..will see how that performs avec geforce2 PRO.

the kk266 is 4 dollars more on pricewatch than the kt7!
I would go with the iwill, I feel its a much more stable easy to setup board!
My first kt7 had issues and I rma'd it the replacement worked great it was still a hassle!
The iwill worked great right out of the box!
