Hi i'm a newb to overclocking, I have a ecs nf3 mobo with a amd 64 3000+ venice cpu 2.0 ghz, socket 754. I'm looking to overclock a little, nothing extreme, I have corsaire value select, 2 512 sticks of pc 3200, stock HS FAN. what would be a moderate overclock for this setup? Any help appreciated.

a moderate overclock for a venice is 2.4-2.6, 2.7-2.8 is a good oc and anything over 2.8 is really good.

how did you get socket 754 venice?
it must be a northwood if it is 2GHz and s754, then your overclock will be much lower, your mobo too seems s754.

Really if you arent going to tweak it yourself, it's not worth overclocking. Just asking what to overclock to is pointless. A64's require tweaking... there's no quick and easy overclocking unless you get real lucky.

heres a shot from cpu z, 754 venice. sorry to bother you guys, theres a option in the bios that lets you increase the cpu speed, but I guess its not that easy... this was one of the fry's combo deals for 99 bucks that was posted in hot deals a few months ago..

there are sock 754 venice's

akshayt almost got it right -> 2.5+ is a very well oc for a Venice 3000+/3200+

2.7+ is crazy :)

moderate would be to 3500+ speeds and abit higher

Atleast for a s939, Venice,

all of them do atleast 2.4
and normally it will be hard to find a venice which is unable to do 2.5 or 2.6, most of them do that much or more
so 2.4-2.6 is what most do and so can be called moderate

however most venice or atleast many of them do 2.7-2.8 with some more volts

i am talking of s939, where amd 64 3200 is at 2ghz and not at 2.2ghz already.

Follow myocardia's link and follow the directions and you'll probably have a 3400+/3500+ equivilent (2.4/2.5GHz) in no time.

Northwood is P4. You're thinking of Newcastle. That got replaced by Venice in both socket 754 and 939. 939 got it a while back, and more recently 754 got Venice cores.

Socket 754 3000+ Venice E6

Socket 754 3200+ Venice E6

Socket 754 3400+ Venice E3

For sale at Newegg

They used to be decent values until the recent erosion of pricing on socket 939 chips.

I also have a amd 64 3200+ newcastle 2.2 ghz 512 cache, maybe I'll just switch them out, would 200mhz be worth it?
