help with agp upgrade

sony pentium 4 unit with geforce 2x 32 video card.
card occupies agp slot. have pci slot available.
existing agp slot is 2x/4x so I understand 8x agp card will be "slowed down"
will pci card work ? performance upgrade ?

8x AGP speed is marketing hype. There is little or no difference between 4x and 8x AGP.
