I rejuvenated an old Compaq 7470 (AMD) system. After installing Me, everything works find but I get a yellow exclamation on the ACPI system board extension conflicting with anything (network card or modem) that I stick in either available PCI slot. Any ideas?

Sounds like your old Compaq is not ACPI compliant , your better off changing your pc over to "Standard PC"

Goto your device manager and update the driver on your "computer" , not sure on the procedure with winME but with win2k/XP you need to select the "driver yourself from a specific location" and "choose the driver you want to use" and select "Standard PC" and click next , reboot with fingers crossed you should be fine.

I appreciate the input and realize beggars can't be choosers, but the bios claims to be compliant and is up to date. Compaq has nothing on their site about it. I'll try some other methods and use that as a last resort. Thanx.
