Okay, here's the story.

My machine:

ABIT KT7A-RAID
Duron 850
Hedgehog HSF
192 pc-100 ram
Enlight 300w PSU

Okay, I originally switched my Enlight PSU for a Leadman 400w PSU. Well, the 400w PSU died, and fried my 2 hard drives, and God knwos what else. I connected my old Enlight 300w PSU to the motherboard, it powers on, no beeps, no video. So I took the motherboard out to check for grounding. Power on, still no beeps, no video. Now, I have only the CPU plugged in. Turned it on, my beeps, nothing. Touched the CPU to check for cracking, received no shock, so I guess there is no cracking. However, the CPU didn't heat up at all.

Does that mean the processor is dead, or that the motherboard is dead. Possibly a combination?

Unfortunately, I don't have another socket A board to check the CPU on, and I don't have another socket A CPU to check the MB with.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks

bummer,

i take it you pulled out all the addin cards?
also if you have a spare video card you might want to try it (and only it) to see if the machine will post

if all that fails and you want to pay return shipping ill gladly test the cpu for you.

i have 2 socket a machines sitting on the floor right now being worked on, i can easily drop it in and see if its any good

good luck :)

Have you tried to reset the bios? either pull out the battery, or move the clear cmos battery jumper.

I don't think that the cpu is dead. But perhaps your motherboard are? since many ot the other components died.

LOL, what a wonderful way to check your CPU for cracking...

I think that the motherboard is broken, as the power goes to the motherboard before it reaches any other components that is likely.

But you really have to check it to be sure.

Thanks, someone once told me that if you touch the cpu with it running and get shocked, it's because one area is cracked and is seeping voltage.

Yes, I have all the card pulled out. I checked all of my cards one by one, so I didn't miss anything. I reset my BIOS, with no luck.

I had this happen once before with the original CPU I bought for the machine, a 1.2g Athlon. With that one however, if anything was not connected or seated correctly (video card, CPU, ram), I would get CMOS beep codes letting me know. With ABOSOLUTELY NOTHING plugged in, the MB powers on, but no beeps, nothing. I would have to guess that it is definitely the MB.

I'll contact Axion's tech support tomorrow to get an RMA going.

Thanks for all your help guys.
I appreciate it. =)
