Help with Abit KT7 and IBM GXP75

Wierd happenings. See my sig for the current setup. I am trying to add a new IBM GXP75. I pulled all the parts except the video card and tried a fresh install of Win98SE immediatly followed by the Abit system disk. All goes well but I cant get any PlugNPlay to recognize. My video card shows up as Generic PCI VGA driver or something real close. I even tried another AGP video card,, no go. I got updated motherboard drivers, didn't help. I searched these forums and those at storeagereview.com and cant find anything. I have PNP enabled in my BIOS along with AGP4X. It isn't just the vid card either. My modem and sound card show up as unidentifed communications devices in Device Manager. This is a Plug N Play prob isnt it?

Also I can go back to my orig HDD and all components work fine and show up in Device manager. Plug and Play workeed fine before I tried the new IBM drive.

When installing/formating a HDrive windows cant recognise correctly and load drivers for devices that didn't exist when it was released.

You have to load the manufactures drivers for:
AGP
Sound
Modem
NIC
Some new SCSI cards
New Chip sets
Pretty well anything that plugs into a slot.

Your old HD has these drivers already installed so no problem, so find those disc's or go to the manufactures web site, find the latest drivers and start loading.

Excuse my post if you already did this, but you never stated it.

PNP was enabled in the BIOS. I will get the newest drivers and do that. When I did a windows install on the WD 17G, all this stuff PNP recognized. This didn't happen with the new HDD.

Was that a format/reinstall on the WD or did you just reinstall windows? If it was just reloading windows then all the old drivers are still there.

Any other thoughts? I would still expect PNP to recognize at least the modem or sound. It cant recognize anything correcty.

<<Any other thoughts>>

I told you the answer, PNP cant load correct drivers for devices that where not even invented when the OS was made.

Video and sound cards have there drivers updated at least several times a year, KT133 chipset was only invented this year. How is PNP going to load there correct drivers and post there correct names in device manager?

By the way if you didn't load the Via 4-1 drivers then I expect to see you posting here again.

As you didn't format you old hard drive when you reinstalled windows, all your old setting and drivers where still in place.

Download the latest drivers, load them and stop complaining about PNP. There is no problem.

Also, CAMS, I loaded the 4in1 drivers. Thought I pointed that out in the beginning. They were the drivers loaded off the manufacturers disk, and the updated motherboard drivers I mentioned.
