Help with a Volvo 740 headunit install........

I am having trouble locating the factory amp. I need to take it out so that i can get to the 12v line. Does anyone know were the amp is and how to get to it? I am haveing alot of trouble getting the panels and things like that off the car to look for the amp and i dont want to break anything. If i can just get the car apart and take the amp out then i wont have any trouble installing the stereo. Thanks

Are you sure it comes with an amp?

Most cars just have a head unit.. plenty of power for stock configs.. the new small op-amps they use in them can push 4x50++ watts

so chances are slim there is an amp..

I am talking about taking out the stock radio in my car. It has the 1991 premium audio package and that included a factory amp. I have to find the amp and take it out so that i can use the 12v line to hook up my stereo. I am not going to install an amp with my stereo (well i will but not till i can afford one).

Oh yeah, that amp. Hmm. I'm 75% sure its up front in the dash somewhere. My buddy has a '85 760 and I recall it being up there. Does your car have the eq under the radio as well?

Oh.. ok..

It's just uncommon for the car to come stock with an amp external from the head.. thats why I asked.

Yeah i was really surprised when i found out that there was an amp too.

Yeah i have traced the wires and the only place that i can really trace it to is to behind the ac controls but i just cannot find any way to get to it. And no my car is just a tape deck but it does have a big spot that an eq could have gone.

The amp should be under the dash on the driver's side. Remove the panel under the dash on that side and it should be by the pedals. This is the setup in a '85 760.
