Help with a Tivo.....

So my buddy gave me an older Series one Phillips HDR212. He took out the 20g drive and put in a 120g. The internal modem is bad, but I replaced it with the external modem kit (off eGay for $25).

Problem is, I got everything for the initial "setup" taken care of last night, dials in fine, schedule is all there. BUT, when I look at the system information, it says recording capacity is only 4hrs at Best quality and 14hrs at Good quality.

I'm thinking maybe the drive wasn't formatted correctly? I know he didn't set it up as a 2 drive box, he just took out the old, backed up the OS, then put it on the new drive.

What could the problem be? More importantly, what needs to be done to fix it?

TIA

Sounds like he just imaged the original onto the larger one and it's not taking advantage of the extra space. I'm not familiar with that situation though, so I'd recommend visiting http://www.tivocommunity.com as well. Just a tip, make sure you search well before you post any questions. The guys there, while incredibly helpful, love to flame noobies who post questions that have asked and answered thousands of times before. 🙂

Thanks guys!

Was just reading Hinsdale's How-to. I think my buddy just missed a step. He backed up the image to the new drive, but didn't go in afterwards to expand it so it recognizes the additional capacity:

With a backup image already on your new upgrade drive then use ONE of the following to expand:

(The following command assumes your new larger upgrade A drive ? with image - is connected as Secondary Master and your new B drive - if any - is connected as Primary Slave)

mfsadd -x /dev/hdc (expanding single larger A drive)
