Help with a sound output problem!

Hi,

My mother accidentally pulled her headphones out of her laptop with some force, and the plastic circlet which holds the jack has snapped. Consequently, the jack no longer grips into the stereo out port and just falls out.
The only other port on the laptop is a microphone port. So is it possible to change that mic in port to a stereo out port with software? She is using windows 7.

The only other thing I can think to do is buy some USB headphones, but that would be a waste of the £40 ones which she was using.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Yes it works but you have to physically hold the jack in, as soon as you let go it falls out because the plastic around the edge has broken away.

Some audio chipsets will let you reassign jacks via their control panel. Do you know what type of chipset your Mom's laptop has?
